Helensvale Hogs Rugby Union Club

The Helensvale Hogs are pleased to announce the below 3 players as the Front Row for our team of the decade.

Joseph Hepi- 113 Games (2009, 2011-18)
Joe has been a huge part of Helensvale Hogs for many years. He has even been a part of Hogs before we officially started counting caps in 2009. He's played in all but 1 of the 10yrs of counting where he went and played with Coomera for a year but this is a guy who is as H4L as they come. He is only 1 of 2 1st grade players to have played 100games and they say the game of Rugby is won up front so what a guy to have there. A hard worker with a huge motor, solid scrummager, and loves a try in milestone games.

Frankie Kawana- 41 games (2016-18)
Has only recently finished his 3rd season with 1st grade at Hogs. But what a success story this guy is. Having been apart of Hogs for quite some time before 2016 playing 3rds and 2nds Frankies rise to 1sts has been awesome for all at Hogs to watch. A man full of commitment, work ethic, and now with 41 games under the belt we think the best is still to come for this great man.

Jade Brunsdon (Magic) - 93 games (2010-17)
The Magic Man Jade Brunsdon finishes off our front row. Earning the nickname from his happy feet and great ball skills this guy has been a pleasure to watch at rugby lane over his 8 playing seasons. He found the tryline a fair few times too and im sure i speak on behalf of all in blue that 7 more games would look great on him dont you reckon????

Congrats Joe, Frankie, and Magic. Thanks for all you have done at our club! Hogs fans please comment any particular memories you have with these 3 players whether it be on or off the field below. Cheers!

Helensvale Hogs Rugby Union Club

To kick things off for our Hogs Team of the Decade we will start with the Bench. The lads who are required to come on and change a game. We've gotta a pretty strong group... so here we go!

Jamie Walker- 71 games (2012, 2014-18)
A big character who loves running a hard line and doesnt mind the ol chip and chase either! Jamies commitment to the jersey has been class and he takes the 1st spot on our bench.

Michael Christison - 34 games (2013-15)
A nuggetty player who did plenty of the hard stuff required up front. Our 2nd most capped hooker at 34 so shows the demands of this position

Sam Dick- 45 games (2009, 2012-15)
Sambo rightfully takes this last front row bench spot. Played a fair chunk of his 1st grade games off of the bench after playing 50 2nd grade games which shows the calibre of the man. Always putting his hand up to play with the brothers and sometimes actual brother George Dick.

Josh James- 51 games (2012-17)
A guy who has been involved in all aspects of our club for many years. From Player, captain, committee member, to vice president. A big hard ball carrier who actually had a bit of speed to go with it aswell believe it or not, and if he found you in a ruck you knew about it thats for sure!

Jason Mackie - 37 games (2010, 2015-16)
The son of life member Haydn Mackie fills out our foward reserves. A very gifted all round player that loved getting stuck into everything for 80mins. Jmack was (and probably still is) a damaging player.

Te Ari Mahuri - 62 games (2015-18)
The uce has been a Hog for 4 seasons now and has racked up the caps in that time. A great rugby brain on his shoulders to marshall the Hogs round the field and has a classy right shoe to points on the board too.

Grant Davies - 34 games (2014-16, 2018)
A very hard running and defensively solid 10 who gives his all when on the paddock. Was great to see him back out there with us this season and we look forward to hopefully seeing him add more games in the coming years.

Jamie McCaa - 35 games (2009-14)
A member of the infamous 2007 Colts premiership winning side. Ooh ahh Jimmy McCar went on to play senior 1st grade rugby for us for 6 years before infamously clashing heads with Tafa on a Thursday night training. Has won 2 3rd grade premierships, one for Hogs and 1 for hares. Has played in a premiership winning 2nd grade side and has also coached a premiership winning 2nd grade side. So a pretty valuable man to have in our last spot on the bench.

Honourable Mentions
Chris Dawson - 31 games 2009-13
Aaron Bulling - 38 games 2012-17
Jason Warnock - 36 games 2010-12, 2014
Ben Manera - 40 games 2011-15, 2018
Scott Stokes - 44 games 2013-15, 2018

Helensvale Hogs Rugby Union Club

Back in 2012 after seeing the All Blacks receive 100 game caps at the 2011 world cup. Hayden McCaa, with the help of Paul Gist and the committee thought it would be a great idea to do this at Hogs. To create pride, honour, and history in the blue jersey. Hayden was given team sheets of all Hogs games from 2009-11 (2009 was as far back as they could go) acquired by Paul from GC rugby and since then has been keeping the count going. The end of this season was our 10th year of officially counting games and with prizegiving coming up next saturday we thought it would be awesome to pick a Hogs team of the Decade. Starting tomorrow, each day leading to saturday we will post a different position group. Once named, the dream is to potentially get this team together at our Sounder of Swines Day (old boys day) next year 2019. So stay tuned Hogs people! #H4L #hogsofthedecade ... See moreSee less
